Summary
We were contacted regarding suspected raccoon activity entering the attic overnight. Our team completed a full roof inspection, identified a roof vent entry point, and implemented a humane, non-lethal removal strategy using one-way doors. Following removal, comprehensive roofline exclusion was completed. A follow-up visit confirmed no further activity and all access points were fully secured.

Inspection & Findings
During the initial visit, our technician conducted a full exterior roof inspection. A damaged roof vent was identified as the primary entry point. The condition of the vent opening suggested repeated use. Additional vulnerable openings were observed, including multiple roof vents, a plumbing vent, and chimney flues that were accessible from the roof surface.
Photos taken during the inspection show an unsecured roof vent opening and exposed vent and chimney structures prior to screening.
Cause Analysis
Raccoons commonly access roofs by climbing nearby trees or structural features. Roof vents and chimney openings can become entry points when screens or covers are damaged or missing. Once access is established, raccoons may return repeatedly, particularly when attic spaces provide warmth and shelter.
Treatment / Removal
A humane removal approach was used. One-way doors were installed over the primary roof vent entry point to allow adult raccoons to exit without re-entry. An additional one-way door was installed to accommodate mobile juveniles. This setup allowed the animals to vacate the attic naturally without harm.
The entry area was disinfected following door installation to address contamination at the access point.
Exclusion & Repairs
As part of the approved work, the following exclusion measures were completed:
- Eight roof vents secured with galvanized steel vent cages
- One plumbing vent sealed with galvanized steel mesh
- Two chimneys fitted with galvanized steel chimney screening
Photos show vent and chimney covers securely fastened and flush with the roof surface following installation.
Outcome & Confirmation
At the second visit, the homeowner reported no further wildlife activity. Our technician confirmed the attic remained inactive. All one-way doors were removed, entry points were permanently sealed, and the full exclusion work was reinspected. No additional access points or signs of wildlife activity were found.
