Rat Entry Point Sealing and Exterior Control – Oakville

Job Overview

Location: Oakville, Ontario
Structure: Detached two story house with attached garage
Problem: Reported rat activity inside the home
Service: Rat treatment and exterior exclusion
Visits: 4 visits

Summary

Our team at Pest Control Oakville completed a multi-visit rat control and exclusion service at a detached residential property in Oakville. The work focused on identifying exterior entry points, controlling exterior rodent pressure, and sealing access routes into the structure. Following completion, no further rat activity was reported inside the home.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached two-story house with brick and siding construction and an attached garage. The foundation perimeter included multiple utility penetrations, wall vents, weep vents, and transition points between materials that required close inspection.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported signs of rat activity inside the house and requested a professional inspection to identify how rodents were entering the structure and to stop further access.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial exterior inspection, multiple potential rodent entry points were identified along the foundation, siding transitions, wall vents, and weep vents. Some openings were located at grade level, while others were associated with utility and vent penetrations.

Interior inspection areas showed signs consistent with rodent activity, including debris and droppings in utility spaces. Exterior observations also included gaps at the foundation line and vent openings that were accessible from ground level.

Photos provided show examples of foundation gaps, open or unprotected wall vents, accumulated nesting material within wall cavities, and interior areas with rodent debris.

Cause Analysis

The rat activity was attributed to a combination of ground-level access points and unprotected exterior openings. Gaps along the foundation and vent penetrations provided entry opportunities, while the surrounding environment allowed rodents to travel along exterior walls. These conditions made it possible for rats to enter the structure and access interior spaces.

Treatment / Removal

Rat control was performed by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. The treatment plan included the placement of two large, weighted, tamper-proof bait stations on the exterior of the home to address exterior rodent activity. Inside the house, large baited snap traps were installed to prevent rodents from dying within wall or floor cavities.

Exterior bait stations were serviced and rebaited across multiple visits to maintain effectiveness and monitor activity levels.

Exclusion & Repairs

After approval, exclusion work was completed and included:

  • Installation of a rat one-way door at an identified active entry point
  • Sealing approximately two feet of foundation gaps using mortar, caulking, and galvanized steel mesh
  • Installation of stainless steel vented inserts on five weep vents
  • Installation of galvanized steel cages over two wall vents

Photos show screened wall vents, sealed foundation sections, and mesh installations completed flush to the masonry surface.

Outcome & Confirmation

On the final visit, the homeowner reported no further rat activity inside the house. The one-way door was removed and permanently sealed, and all exclusion work was reinspected. No new entry points or signs of continued rodent activity were observed at that time.

Technician Notes

The service was completed over four visits by technician Shaohua. Exterior conditions allowed full access throughout the service period, and winter weather did not interfere with inspections or repairs. All identified entry points included in the approved scope were addressed, and monitoring confirmed resolution of the issue.
