Squirrel Attic Entry Sealed at a Detached Home in Oakville

Job Overview

Location: Oakville, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey house with attached garage
Problem: Early-morning wildlife noise in the attic consistent with squirrel activity
Service: Squirrel removal and exterior exclusion
Visits: 2

Summary

Our team completed a two-visit squirrel removal at a detached residential property in Oakville. Activity was traced to a roofline soffit intersection. A one-way door was installed to allow animals to exit safely, followed by targeted soffit exclusion. A final visit confirmed no further activity and that all entry points were sealed.

Background / Property Context

The property is a two-storey detached home with multiple rooflines and an attached garage. These intersections created elevated soffit seams that required ladder and roof access for proper inspection and repair.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported consistent early-morning sounds coming from the attic area and observed squirrel movement on the roof. They requested an inspection to locate the entry point and prevent further attic access.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial exterior roof inspection, the main entry point was identified at a soffit intersection along the roofline. Disturbed soffit material and nesting debris were visible behind the opening. Staining along the soffit and fascia area was also observed, consistent with repeated wildlife access.

Photos taken during the inspection show an opening at the soffit seam, nesting material behind the soffit panel, and roofline conditions requiring screening.

Cause Analysis

Soffit intersections at rooflines can create small gaps as materials age or shift. Squirrels commonly exploit these elevated access points to reach attic spaces, particularly in spring and early summer when nesting activity increases. Once an entry point is established, repeat use can enlarge the opening over time.

Treatment / Removal

On the first visit, a one-way door was installed over the identified soffit entry point. This allowed squirrels to exit the attic safely while preventing re-entry. The work was completed during appropriate seasonal conditions, and no interior access was required.

Exclusion & Repairs

Approximately five feet of soffit exclusion was completed using galvanized steel mesh to reinforce the vulnerable section. The mesh was secured flush to the structure to prevent future access while maintaining ventilation where applicable.

On the second visit, the one-way door was removed after the homeowner reported no further activity. The entry point was permanently sealed, and all exclusion work was inspected to confirm integrity.

Photos document the installed screening along the soffit and roofline after completion.

Outcome & Confirmation

Following removal of the one-way door and final sealing, no additional wildlife activity was reported. The attic entry point was closed, and the exclusion remained secure at the time of final inspection.

Technician Notes

The inspection and exclusion work were completed by our technician, Andrew, using roof-level access equipment. No weather-related limitations were encountered, and all work was performed externally. Final confirmation verified that squirrels had vacated and that no further access points were present.
