Job Overview
Location: Oakville, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey house with front deck
Problem: Rat activity reported inside the home
Service: Rat treatment
Visits: 5
Summary
We responded to reports of active rat presence inside a detached residential property. A multi-visit treatment plan was implemented focusing on population reduction and interior monitoring. Activity levels declined steadily over successive visits, with no further indoor activity reported by the final visit.
Background / Property Context
The property is a two-storey detached house with a raised front deck and ground-level construction features that create concealed voids along the foundation and deck interface. These areas can provide cover and access opportunities for rodents if gaps develop over time.
Customer Concern
The homeowner reported seeing live rats in multiple areas of the house and requested an inspection to identify potential entry points and address the infestation.
Inspection & Findings
During the initial inspection, our technician identified multiple potential rodent entry points around the exterior, including gaps at the foundation and areas concealed by the front deck. Interior inspection confirmed conditions consistent with active rat movement. Exterior ground-level openings and voids beneath the deck were noted as high-risk areas.
Photos from the inspection show concealed spaces under the deck, foundation gaps at ground level, and interior trap placement locations consistent with monitoring and control efforts.

Cause Analysis
Rat activity was likely supported by accessible exterior gaps at the foundation and deck interface, allowing rodents to travel between the exterior and interior wall or floor cavities. Ground-level shelter, combined with structural openings, can enable rats to establish travel routes into a home. Without full exterior sealing, repeated access remains possible.
Treatment / Removal
A licensed exterminator carried out the rat treatment in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Two large, weighted, tamper-resistant bait stations were installed on the exterior to address the larger outdoor population. Inside the home, large baited snap traps were strategically placed to intercept rodents and reduce the risk of rats dying within interior voids.
Bait stations were monitored and rebaited over multiple follow-up visits due to high feeding activity, indicating ongoing population pressure from the exterior.

Exclusion & Repairs
During the first visit, multiple exterior entry points were identified and documented. A quote for sealing and exclusion was provided; however, the homeowner chose not to proceed with exclusion work at that time. No structural sealing was performed as part of this service.
Outcome & Confirmation
By the fifth visit, the homeowner reported no further rat activity inside the house. Interior monitoring confirmed the absence of ongoing activity, and exterior bait station activity had stabilized. No additional rodent presence was reported following completion of the treatment schedule.
Technician Notes
The work was completed over five visits between February and April. Winter conditions did not limit access during this period. Technician Dylan conducted the inspection, monitoring, and follow-up servicing, noting high exterior activity during early visits and a clear reduction by the final visit.
