Mouse Entry Point Sealing and Population Control — Oakville

Job Overview

Location: Oakville, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-story house with front deck
Problem: Mouse activity reported throughout the interior of the home
Service: Mouse treatment and exterior entry point sealing
Visits: Four

Summary

We responded to reports of active mice inside a detached residential home. Our team completed a full exterior inspection, identified multiple rodent entry points, implemented exterior population control measures, and installed interior trapping to prevent rodents from dying within wall cavities. Follow-up visits confirmed declining activity and a successful resolution.

Background / Property Context

The property is a detached two-story house with masonry exterior walls, foundation junctions, and multiple exterior wall vents at ground level. These features can present accessible entry opportunities for rodents if gaps or deteriorated openings are present.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported seeing live mice in multiple areas of the house and was concerned about ongoing interior activity and potential nesting within wall voids.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial inspection, several potential rodent entry points were identified along the exterior foundation and at wall vent penetrations. Visible gaps were observed between masonry elements and around vent covers at ground level. These openings were consistent with mouse entry behavior.

Cause Analysis

Mouse activity was likely driven by accessible exterior openings combined with seasonal foraging behavior. Small gaps at foundation interfaces and unprotected wall vents can allow mice to enter wall cavities and interior spaces. Once established, interior activity can continue unless both population control and exclusion are addressed together.

Treatment / Removal

All pest control work was carried out by a licensed exterminator in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines.
Two large, weighted, tamper-resistant bait stations were installed on the exterior to reduce the outdoor mouse population. Inside the home, large baited snap traps were strategically placed to intercept mice and prevent mortality within inaccessible structural voids.

Bait stations were serviced and rebaited regularly over subsequent visits due to high initial feeding activity.

Exclusion & Repairs

On the first visit, our technician sealed identified exterior entry points after approval was provided on site. Two wall vents were secured with galvanized steel vent covers to prevent rodent access while maintaining airflow. Other visible gaps at masonry joints were addressed as part of the exclusion work.

Outcome & Confirmation

By the fourth visit, the homeowner reported no further mouse activity inside the house. Follow-up inspection and monitoring confirmed that interior activity had ceased, and no new signs of rodent entry were observed after treatment and sealing were completed.

Technician Notes

The initial inspection and exclusion work were completed by our technician, Shaohua. High exterior feeding activity required multiple rebaiting visits before population pressure decreased. Interior trapping and exterior exclusion worked together to resolve the issue without further escalation.
